Californication "JFK - - > LAX" S5E1

Hank Moody, up to his usual tricks. Clearly some time has passed since the last season as he is now in NYC. But within the first 10 minutes he's on a plane back to the Coast. I mean the show isn't called New Yorkifornication. Hank, classy as usual, dumps his gf of a year because he's not a 'relationship guy.' "GET A NEW GAME, HANK!" She's pissed because, after all, she did give up anal for him. Yeah, so it's not a PG show...
Charlie calls and offers him a writing gig and Hank doesn't hesitate. I mean, ex-gf has a key to his apartment and she does really have psycho potential.
Aboard the flight he is seated net to a hot woman in First class and promptly spills a drink on her and the charm begins. Unfortunately, hot lady is in the wrong seat and fat, intrusive man quickly replaces her. But the charm works and hot lady convinced lady next to her to switch seats so that hot lady can sit next to her 'husband.'
Hank pours his heart out about his life and hot lady falls for every second of it and hints that she'll be in the bathroom. Airplane bathrooms are NEVER as big as they are on movies and TV when they show the Mile High Club. And yet, Hank decides to join it anyway. However, they are interrupted between anything can happen.
They bid each other adieu at the airport. Hank attempts to get her number but her cry whisks her away.
Charlie picks hank up with 2.5 year old kid in the back therefore confirming it's been a few years. Kid isn't talking yet and Hank tells Charlie it isn't normal even though Marcy keeps telling him it is.
Hank promptly goes to visit Karen and her new husband (? Don't remember this guy, maybe it happened off screen. Thought she was dating Ben.) at their suburbs type house in LA. Funny how Hank wound up going to NY and Karen settled in LA. Hank banters with new husband and finds out that new husband can't stand Becca's new boyfriend and wants to kill him. Hank tells Karen he heartily approves of her husband. Karen says the new boyfriend is fine, Becca's at college and she can date who she wants. She sets up a dinner. Hank... "Dinner with my ex, her new husband, my daughter and her asshole boyfriend. Fan-fucking-tastic."
Hank tells Charlie he's already agitated being back in LA and it's only been a few hours. They show up at Marcy and husband's where Marcy is being um, satisfied by her husband. Being the foul men that they are they watch until they notice the kid watching too. Runkle is horrified and Marcy screams at the nanny.
Charlie and Producer inform hank that he has to meet with rapper Samurai Apocalypse to 'audition' to be the writer on his movie. Hank is pissed and remembers why he hates LA. Hank meets with him and Samurai wants him to write him in a movie called "Santa Monica cop" which is like Beverly Hills Cop, but in Santa Monica. Hank is thrilled.
And can we guess who Samurai's girlfriend is? Yup, hot lady from the plane. She plays it cool and 'accidentally' spills a drink in Hank's lap.  Have we exhausted the plot point of Hank randomly meeting women, messing with them and then they become important to someone who's important to him and 'no one can find out about their dalliance?' Every season now?
Hank goes to visit Becca, his one true love and soon meets 'dickhead' boyfriend who indeed lives up to the expectation. At dinner, Hank questions boyfriends motives and such and he's a dick right back to Hank. Hank being the dick of all dicks isn't enjoying the competition. Boyfriend polishes off a bottle of wine and then moves to leave. Hank stops him as he really shouldn't drive after a bottle of wine. They argue and Becca winds up taking the keys and driving telling her father as always it's a pleasure seeing him. Boyfriend shakes hands and apologizes for getting off on the wrong foot and they leave. Why would Hank like him? He's just like him. Karen's husband and Hank bond over what an asshole the kid is. Karen tells Hank Tyler is just like him and to deal with it. Becca likes him. It is what it is until it isn't anymore. Truth!
Hank goes to visit Charlie to tell him that he wants to go back to NY. Charlie tells him to relax and give LA another try. Hank gets a call. Psycho girl set his apartment on fire. Now he doesn't have anyplace to go.
Wondering if this show is losing it's luster. I kind of like that Hank moved on and completely accepts Karen's new husband and he's always been an interesting character but he's gone from charming to pathetic and back so many times you wonder if this is his Inferno, to never be happy? And if so, this is pretty depressing...and realistic.
