So Tyler is gone. Who's the big bad now? Oh that's right, everyone's reprehensible! Except Jack...oh Jack.
This week Emily sets her sights on an author, Mason Treadwell (Oh Roger Bart, I've missed your face) who wrote the 'biography' of her father. She is reading the book again when Daniel walks in and proposes maybe the two of them find a place together in the city. Emily quickly refutes the idea saying that she was raised traditionally and would prefer to be married before they lived together. 'Traditional' has an interesting definition these days.
Emily attends a reading of the author's book with Nolan and runs into Victoria. She compliments Mason on his book and tells him she owns the house that David Clarke was arrested in. He's fascinated and invites her to Victoria's private party. Chalk another great 'oh shit' look on Madeline Stowe's face. Emily introduces Nolan and Maxwell is either impressed or terrified, hard to tell. Nolan sweet talks Mason into possibly writing his biography. Mason is flattered and invites Nolan to the party as well.
Emily calls to check on her real but unspoken true love Jack and he assures her that he and "amanda" are all right after the Tyler confrontation. Amanda appears and Jack gets off the phone. Amanda wants an impromptu trip to Atlantic City for some fun. Funny how when you live in the Hamptons you even want to get away for the weekend. Jack turns her down as he has a business to run. She is not only disappointed but hurt and asks if she were Emily if he would turn her down. Perhaps your feelings aren't as hidden as you thought, Jack.
Mason comes to Grayson Manor for lunch and Victoria informs him that Amanda Clarke has returned and she would really like to know her motive for being there. Mason thinks it's probably just for closure but Victoria is concerned how far she will go to get closure. Mason agrees to speak with her.
In reading her father's diary, she finds that David trusted Mason to tell his real story and Mason was bought out by the Graysons like everybody else to tell the fake story. Emily watches an interview with Mason where he tells reporters how delusional David Clarke was. And thus she has her next target. Literally, as she marks a red X on his face. Subtext isn't a skill of Revenge.
Mason comes to the Stowaway to find Amanda and tries to trigger her memory of when he interviewed her when she was little. Since she is in fact, not Amanda, she fakes the memory and agrees to a 'follow up' interview.
Victoria's divorce attorney advises Victoria to use Daniel as a pawn in the divorce proceedings to get her in control of the shares of the company. She is, naturally, skeptical but will of course comply because how boring would it be if she didn't?
The uninteresting Charlotte and Declan return from registering for classes both with full loads and stressed out about school. Riveting!
Clearly Victoria accepted the plan and shared it with Daniel as he goes right to the South Fork Inn and asks Conrad to release his trust. Conrad promptly agrees because of Daniel's interest in the company. Conrad shares this with his lawyer and she's like, uh duh, he's playing you. So they hatch their own plan to release his trust but not the shares. He also predicts his relationship with Emily will end soon so they won't have to worry about any weddings or anything. Come on, Conrad, really?
Nolan and Emily pay a visit to Mason. He shows them the only (no copies) copy of his memoirs. Why would you do that? He also reveals all the interviews for his Clarke biography and tells them he will be re-interviewing Amanda Clarke.
Amanda, still all pissy from earlier, plays the music loud at the bar, does shots and makes out with female customers and does her own little Coyote Ugly on the bar to the delight of the customers and to the horror of sweet boyfriend, Jack. Emily arrives and of course Jack's attention goes all to her. Amanda is completely jealous but Emily talks her down and tells her Jack is crazy about her. They go outside to chat about Mason. Emily informs 'Amanda' that she needs her help to prove that her dad was innocent. Amanda asks what she wants her to do.
Dramatic music...commercial!
Declan informs Jack how the "amanda" show was the talk of the town. Declan tells him she's good for Jack to loosen him up a little.
Daniel and Emily take Nolan to the shooting range to let off some tension. Daniel takes off for some company business and Emily informs Nolan that Mason will be interviewing 'Amanda' and she needs him to help her control the story. "Control + Amanda = a recipe for disaster." (It's really lines like this that keep me coming back for more on this show. It's just delicious.) Emily reveals (through flashback) to Nolan that when she was little, she confided and trusted in Mason (then Leo) that she thought her Dad was innocent. Mason agreed and got her to trust him. But he wound up publishing a book that may as well have been written by the Graysons.
Daniel swoops in to a meeting with his Dad to help woo a hot client.
Uninteresting Charlotte comes to find even more uninteresting Declan asleep while reading Paradise Lost, I guess at an attempt to make himself more interesting? (Psst, Declan...Milton isn't the way to make yourself more interesting, just sayin...) But I guess it works for Charlotte as she seems touched and covers him with a blanket. Point of scene?
Mason interviews Amanda. She has an invisible ear piece in as Amanda and Nolan feed her the lines. Amanda turns on Mason and asks why she broke her trust. He tells her she was a child, why should he trust her. But she keeps on him and makes him uncomfortable and asks why he printed all the lies. She gets in his face (per Emily's instructions) and threatens him that his public reading at the Graysons is his last chance to redeem himself and he should take it. And she storms off. Nolan congratulates her for success.
Daniel informs Victoria that Conrad threw them a curveball about his trust fund. He either has to turn 30 or get married. He says he has no problem marrying Emily but Victoria is VERY against it. However, it will give her the upper hand so...she asks Ashley to do her a favor.
Ashley informs Emily that the only way Daniel can access his trust before he turns 30 is to get married. Just so she's aware if Daniel proposes, it isn't real. Ashley gets more unlikable every week.
Mason arrives and informs Victoria that Amanda remembers everything and is out to get Victoria and wants to prove Mason is a fraud. Victoria isn't worried. Flashback to their original interview with Victoria threatening to sue him for slander. Conrad stops the interview but Mason threatens them back that he has nothing to lose so he'll write it anyway. Seeing an opportunity, Victoria offers him some 'compensation' to write what they want. Back in the present, Victoria reminds him that she will protect him until he reveals the truth or she will ruin him. Yes, ruin him. Isn't that awesome?
At the reading of his memoirs, everyone hangs on his word while he recounts his interview with 'Amanda' from a few days prior but he reveals that nothing has changed and he still believes in David Clarke's guilt. Victoria is relieved, Emily and Nolan are infuriated. Emily tells Nolan to take Mason to dinner, somewhere out of the way. "For what," Nolan asks. "You'll know when you see it."
Ooooooooooooh. The last 10 minutes are always the best.
Nolan picks up Mason and takes him to dinner.
Victoria meets with her attorney to reveal the new conditions. He advises Victoria to give her blessing to Daniel and Emily's marriage.
Sweet Jack apologizes to Amanda and tells her he envies her how he wishes he could let loose more like her. He tells her to get dressed because they're heading to Atlantic City to throw caution to the wind!
At Mason's house, Emily in stereotypical black hoodie, creeps around with a flashlight looking around, stages a break in and steals all the interview tapes. She remembers finishing Mason's book and it convincing her of her father's guilt until she got his diary when he died. Emily lights a cigarette and rests it on the one and only copy of his memoirs and watch it go up in flames. Nolan and Mason return home to Mason's house in flames. Nolan smiles with satisfaction and whispers 'bad girl.'
Emily shows up at Daniel's wearing next to nothing. I guess setting a man's life on fire really gets her worked up. The next morning she watches some of the tapes she stole and suddenly...Charlotte became interesting. She's David Clarke's daughter. CALLED IT!
Delicious, I tell you.
